General Motors Technician Programs

In order to assist dealers in developing their next generation of technicians, GM had implemented specific training initiatives. Through the GM Training Strategy, dealers are allowed a three-tiered approach to train technicians at the high school level, the college level, and beyond.
As an example, students pursuing a career in servicing and maintaining GM vehicles are offered technical training by GM ASEP. GM and its dealers, together with selected colleges, have joined hands to offer this program across the United States and Canada. GM ASEP educates entirely on current GM products. Through GM ASEP, students can spend two years alternating between attending college and working for sponsoring GM dealerships. Students get an Associates Degree in Automotive Technology, or similar degrees, when they complete their graduation.
GM ASEP integrates sophisticated automotive technical training with a strong academic foundation of math, reading, and electronics, and both analytical and technical skills. Participants in the program receive a strong educational background along with invaluable work experience by working and learning on the job, while on their way to earning their Associates Degree. Since 1979, GM’s ongoing dedication to identify and support GM ASEP colleges and universities has successfully produced over 15,000 service technicians.
