Doubling down to Double up
I love doubling down when I play blackjack. It’s as if you place a bet, then you get to see (most of) the cards, and then if you like what you see, you can double your bet and hope for the best! I used to think that doubling down was just a way for the dealer to get some more money out of you, but I’ve learned better since then-it’s not just an arbitrary token of false hope, it’s a potential momentum changer, much like hitting the nuts on the river in a game of online poker.
Doubling down, like many techniques in poker, is a great way to increase your stack with an educated, calculated approach. It starts, as every hand does, with what the dealer’s holding and ends with what you’ve got in front of you. If he’s got one of those beautiful bust cards (4, 5, or 6) you’re in a great spot to make a move.
Now it’s time to look at your cards. If you’ve got a hand that won’t bust, feel free to double down. Of course if you’ve got eleven it’s a no-brainer, but a if you’ve got a total of nine or ten it isn’t a bad idea to go for it either.
Give it a shot, and feel it out. After a few tries you’ll get it down, and like going all in at poker, and you’ll be doubling up in no time.
